Weekly Indices

The SCRs are the “Top & Tailed Mid of Mids” from a weekly industry survey open to all. Every market participant has a voice — no membership fee, no subscription fee.

SCR is not based on unverifiable “supposed trades,” not on a journalist’s guess, not on a private pricing club number, not counting made-up EFPs, and not on an unregulated trading screen owned by coal mining companies where tiny trades can be conjured up and/or quietly reversed off-line.

While we launched SCR Newsletter in Summer 2024 with its FOB Indo benchmarking, our group has been benchmarking all international coal markets (ARA, Colombia, Richards Bay, Newcastle and more) for private clients since January 2017.

Our Weekly Survey (published on our Founder’s Linked-In Channel) commoditises market sentiment for the coming week into a clear Bull/Neutral/Bear indication. The expensive Hearsay Publications tell you a cross between what their subscribers want you to hear, and what gets them in least trouble selling subscriptions and conference places that week, SCR tells you where the market really is at the close of the week, and where sentiment suggests it will be next week.

SCR coal price data is the only coal dataset untainted by producer-owned Globalcoal inputs, or 35 member private pricing clubs where 14 plus 7 dictate value to the 200 others who trade the market, and of course energy publications who are only in benchmarking to sell subscriptions and conferences.  SCR is funded by advertising and data sales so won’t hassle you for money, or try to be your “special friend”. We seek no “relationship” with any coal linked company because that would be wrong and make us just like certain of the Hearsay Publications. We have nothing to hide, that’s why the range of our price inputs is published every week, and right there is why our price discovery is the largest in the market, use of our data in litigation is expressly permitted, and SCR benchmarks are the only Indonesian indices on which OTC derivatives are priced.
